2.1. BDx and DBx Module Breakout (UID53)

Magna-Power’s BDx Module and DBx Module accessories interface to a power supply through the power supply’s 37-pin external user I/O connector, JS1, using the module’s included interface cable. In a master/slave configuration, however, JS1 is occupied by the UID cable connection.

The UID53 solves this conflict with a dedicated 37-pin breakout connector, JR5. The breakout connector carries the power supply interface signals required by the BDx or DBx Module, allowing the module to be integrated with the power supply while the power supply remains part of a master/slave parallel or series configuration. A 37-pin to 15-pin interface cable is included with the UID53 to connect the breakout connector to the module. Aside from the breakout connector, the UID53 is identical to the UID47 in configuration and operation.

To integrate a BDx or DBx Module in a master/slave configuration:

  1. Configure the master/slave system as described in Master/Slave Parallel Operation or Master/Slave Series Operation, using a UID53 for the power supply that connects to the module.

  2. Connect the included 37-pin to 15-pin cable from breakout connector JR5 of the UID53 to the 15-pin interface connector of the BDx or DBx Module, as shown in Fig. 2.5.

  3. For the BDx Module, enable the interlock feature on the connected power supply, which allows the module to shut down the power supply in the event of a module thermal alarm. Refer to the power supply documentation for instructions on how to enable the interlock feature.

Warning

FIRE HAZARD. Failure to connect the BDx Module interface connection or enable interlock on the power supply could result in overheating and catastrophic failure of the BDx Module.

For complete information about installing and operating the BDx and DBx Modules, refer to the respective module documentation: magna-power.com/support.
