3.1. Inspection

Carefully unpack the Universal Interface Device and accessories, saving all packing materials and included enclosures. Inspect the product for possible shipping damage. Any external damage may be an indication of internal damage. If there is any damage, notify the shipping carrier and Magna-Power immediately: magna-power.com/support.

The following parts are included with all UID models:

  • Universal Interface Device

  • Qty (2) 6-foot 37-conductor shielded cables

  • 37-pin to 15-pin module interface cable (UID53 only)

3.2. Mounting

The UID enclosure includes integrated mounting flanges for surface or panel mounting. Refer to the dimensional diagrams for mounting hole locations and dimensions. The UID should be mounted in a location that allows the included 6-foot cables to reach the power supplies being configured; systems with many units may require mounting the UID units within the equipment rack.

3.3. Power Supply Connections

The UID connects to each power supply’s 37-pin external user I/O connector, JS1, using the included 37-conductor cables:

  • Connect one 37-conductor cable from connector JS1 of the master power supply to connector JR2 of the UID.

  • Connect a second 37-conductor cable from connector JS1 of the slave power supply to connector JR1 of the UID.

One UID is required for every slave power supply. For systems with two or more slave units, connect a 37-conductor cable between connector JR3 of the first UID and connector JR2 of the next UID; interconnecting UID units routes master control and monitoring signals to all of the slave power supplies. For the UID53, the 37-pin breakout connector and included 37-pin to 15-pin cable provide the interface connection for a BDx or DBx Module; see BDx and DBx Module Breakout (UID53).

Warning

Residual voltage. While the UID is a low voltage device, lethal voltages may be present inside the connecting power supply even when the AC input voltage is disconnected. Only properly trained and qualified personnel should remove covers and access the inside of the power supply.

Caution

Always ensure that facility AC input power is de-energized prior to connecting or disconnecting the UID cables, and verify that the system is configured properly for the specific application and that ratings are not exceeded on any input or output terminal before applying power.
