2.2. Features at a Glance

The ML Series is Magna-Power’s water-cooled programmable DC power supply, engineered from the ground up for power density: floor-standing 500 kW and 1000 kW systems covering 100 Vdc to 6000 Vdc and output currents to 5000 Adc. Water cooling is standard on every model, and it is what allows the ML Series to reach nearly four times the power density of Magna-Power’s comparable air-cooled products in the same floor area. Each power supply is built from 250 kW internal power modules — two in a 500 kW system, four in a 1000 kW system — rather than a rack of smaller units, which minimizes the number of switching components for a given power level. Systems scale beyond 1000 kW by placing units in master-slave parallel with the UID47 Universal Interface Device, so a bank of supplies operates as a single system at power levels exceeding 10 MW. Every ML Series model includes a harmonic neutralizer that lowers input current harmonic distortion (THD-I) transparently to the end user, and an AC input breaker rated for full power. The ML Series is available with the D Version advanced front panel or as a blank C Version panel for process control installations; both include the 37-pin isolated external user I/O connector, an RS232 computer interface, the RIS Panel software for computer control, and IVI and LabVIEW drivers. Available options include a blocking diode (+BD), high isolation output (+ISO), high slew rate output (+HS), IEEE-488 GPIB communications (+GPIB), and LXI TCP/IP Ethernet communications (+LXI).
