Magna-Power Expands Programmable DC Power Supply Operating Temperature Range to -25°C

July 22, 2021 • Flemington, NJ USA

Magna-Power expanded the ambient operating temperature range of its rack-mount programmable DC power supply product line down to -25°C, ensuring full-power normal operation at exceptionally low temperatures. The newly expanded temperature capability, now standard on the 1U SL Series, 2U XR Series and 3U to 8U TS Series, satisfies the MIL-STD-810G C1 cold climate design requirements, allowing Magna-Power standardized commercial products to continue to be used in increasingly harsh requirements. Within the three product series, now over 100,000 different programmable DC power supply product configurations are available with the expanded ambient operating temperature range of -25°C to 50°C, ranging from 1.5 kW to 100+ kW, up to 10,000 Vdc and up to 8,000+ Adc.

In response to increasing application of commercial products in harsh environments—both for defense and commercial applications—Magna-Power has continued to bolster its product ratings. In 2018, Magna-Power introduced a MIL-STD-810G shock and vibration rated ruggedized option (+RUG) for its 1U SL Series and 2U XR Series products. The SL Series, recently expanded to an industry-leading 10 kW in 1U (1.75” high), provides a especially cost-effective ruggedized programmable DC power solution, with key applications including vehicle-mounted defense, shipboard remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), oil and gas exploration, among many others.

All MagnaDC programmable DC power supplies come standard with monitoring and control from a variety of sources, including: front panel, computer interface and an isolated analog-digital I/O connector for PLC integration. A Standard Commands for Programmable Instrumentation (SCPI) command set is supported for control from virtually any programming language, including Python. In addition, an IVI driver is included for the Visual Studio programming environment along with a dedicated National Instruments LabVIEW™ and LabWindows™ driver. Additional computer interface options include LXI TCP/IP Ethernet (+LXI), IEEE-488 GPIB (+GPIB), USB and RS-485.

Standard protection features include a dedicated interlock input, programmable over voltage trip and over current trip settings, thermal protection, fuse fault, and analog input programming line fault. In addition, when in standby or fault condition, a 3-phase contactor provides a mechanical break between the power supply’s power processing circuit and the AC mains, providing the user confidence of safe operating conditions.

The newly expanded ambient operating temperature rating is available immediately. All Magna-Power products are designed and manufactured at the company’s vertically integrated headquarters in Flemington, New Jersey USA. The company’s products are available directly from Magna-Power in the USA, through Magna-Power sales offices in the United Kingdom and China, or from a network of distributors in over 40 countries worldwide.
