Magna-Power to Unveil 500 kW and 1,000 kW ML Series Programmable DC Power Supply at APEC 2024 in Long Beach, CA
Magna-Power Electronics, a leading manufacturer of programmable DC power supplies and electronic loads based in Flemington, New Jersey, is unveiling its new 500 kW and 1,000 kW ML Series programmable DC power supplies at the Applied Power Electronics Conference in Long Beach, California, from February 26-28, 2024 (Booth 1303).
The ML Series has been engineered to prioritize power density, incorporating advanced water-cooling technology to achieve a nearly fourfold increase in power density compared to Magna-Power’s other air-cooled models. The 500 kW models are housed in three 19” racks, while the 1,000 kW models occupy just five 19” racks. A variety of models and options are available, with ratings of up to 5,000 Adc and 6,000 Vdc (floating) per unit. In Magna-Power’s advanced master-slave scheme, the master unit directly controls the gate drivers of the slave units, allowing for multiple ML Series power supplies to be connected in master-slave parallel without sacrificing performance. This scalability enables ML Series systems to achieve power levels exceeding 10 MW.
For over two decades, Magna-Power has been delivering megawatt-scale solutions using its popular air-cooled 150 kW and 250 kW MT Series products. Emerging applications in electrolysis (hydrogen generation), aerospace electrification, and high-power radar, among others, have driven the demand for even higher-power, more power-dense solutions that maintain the quality and reliability synonymous with Magna-Power products. The ML Series meets this demand by combining the company’s reliable, robust, current-fed power processing topology, innovative harmonic neutralization technology, and a sophisticated water-cooling network that significantly increases power density. All heat-producing semiconductors are now attached to a newly designed chill-plate heatsink. Additionally, the 500- and 1,000 kW-scale magnetics are wound internally at Magna-Power, with cooling loops that directly cool the core and windings.
Distinct from other solutions on the market, the ML Series offers standalone 500 kW and 1,000 kW models; not merely multiple smaller power modules connected in parallel. This design significantly reduces complexity, parts count, switching devices, and potential points of failure, all while offering a substantially lower cost point.
The ML Series 500 kW and 1,000 kW programmable DC power supplies are designed and manufactured by Magna-Power Electronics in Flemington, New Jersey, USA.
Magna-Power will have a 500 kW ML Series power supply on display at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC 2024) in Booth 1303. Key members of Magna-Power’s engineering team will be present to discuss the product’s features. Magna-Power is currently accepting orders for the ML Series, with anticipated deliveries later this year.
