PX Series
Programmable DC Power Supply
The PX Series was the first programmable DC power supply manufactured by Magna-Power. The PX Series used a pair of silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) on the front end of a three-phase 60 Hz transformer. Over the product’s lifetime, the original 10 kW power level was increased to 15 kW and the output stage was enhanced with an electronic damping module. The electronic damping improved the transient response characteristic by an order of magnitude. The PX Series was a 7U rackmount size and it weighed 260 lbs. The PX Series was offered at 16V, 600A through 800V, 12A. The PX Series could be controlled via IEEE488/RS232 a unique feature at the time.
The PX Series power supplies were known for being virtually indestructible, but suffered the drawbacks of being large and heavy due its use of 60 Hz magnetic components. The PX Series was replaced with the PQ Series which had far better size, weight, and performance characteristics.
